Ingrown Toenails

Hello!  This is Dr. Carlson.  This time, we’re talking about ingrown toenails, another very common problem that we see in the office every day.  Ingrown toenails occur when the side of the toenail starts growing into the flesh of the toe.  This can happen for many reasons, and usually it’s not your fault - it’s just something unfortunate that can happen.

Different Treatment Options

Fortunately, there are many things that we can do to fix this.  At home, you want to make sure that you’re wearing a shoe that gives your toes plenty of room.  A lot of shoes tend to rub on the side of the toe, and that’s going to drive that nail into the skin.  You can also do some foot soaks - epsom salts are a good choice - and use some over the counter antibiotic ointment like neosporin.  Try this for a few weeks and see if it gets better.  If it doesn’t get better, call our office, and we can certainly help you.  We treat these all the time.  We have a simple procedure that can solve the problem permanently, so you’ll never have to worry about it again.  Give us a call today!  Thanks for visiting.
